|
|
Dio fans are guaranteed something special when the band tour next.Talking exclusively to Classic Rock, Ronnie James Dio revealed that they’ll be playing a new song on tour.
“It’s called Electra, which will be released as a limited-edition single, although I’m not sure as yet just how we intend to put it out.
“However, it was important to me that Dio didn’t just come over on the back of the old material, but that we had something fresh to offer.”
Live, the band – also featuring guitarist Doug Aldrich, bassist Rudy Sarzo, drummer Simon Wright and keyboard player Scott Warren – will be concentrating on their own back catalogue this time around, with nothing at all included from Black Sabbath.
“We’ll probably do a coupe of things from Rainbow, but there’s no point in doing anything by Sabbath. I’ve been doing that with Heaven & Hell. There are a lot of people out there who are fans of Dio the band, rather than of me as the former singer with Rainbow and Black Sabbath, and for them we’ll do some material we’ve not done for a long time from the Dio era.”
The band are also planning a new album – or rather two. The aim is to record these simultaneously next year.
“I want to finish the story started with the Magica album [released in 2000]. There are two parts left, and we’ll do those together. At moment, though, I’m not sure when we’ll be recording. Part of the reason for this is that there’s more happening with Heaven & Hell.”
On the H&H front, Classic Rock can reveal that Dio and his bandmates – guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Vinny Appice – will be touring the UK early next year.
“I’ve heard we’ll be over in February, and knowing the way things work with this band we’ll probably do a lot more touring on the back of that. Not that I’m complaining. Working with these guys again has just been so much fun, and very rewarding. There are no egos getting in the way now. We’ve all grown up a lot.
“I’m delighted with the reaction to our album [The Devil You Know]. We knew it was good, but everyone has been so positive about it – that’s just so gratifying. The challenge now is to better it, and also to do something a little different.”
As if all this wasn’t enough to keep the celebrated vocalist busy, Ronnie Dio’s still working on his autobiography ["It's on the back burner right now, because of everything else that's going on"], plus there’s the real prospect of an Elf reunion.
“I’ve been talking to my cousin ‘Rock’ [guitarist David 'Rock' Feinstein] about getting that band back together, and it’s certainly on the cards. But, as usual, it’s dependent on schedules coinciding.”
Elf were the band with whom Dio sung prior to joining Rainbow. They released three studio albums, and Ronnie’s ambition is to re-record some of those songs.
“I’d only want to do an Elf tour if we could come up with a new album. That would include reworkings of some of the older songs, which I don’t think we ever did justice in the studio, plus also a few new tracks.”
So the Scottish fans will hear it first live |

Sounds cool. Just one song.. hmm..
Why not release an EP? 3-5 songs? Maybe throw in 1-2 live songs from recent Dio tours. 2 originals & 2 live? Wishful thinking? |

Nice, very good news i believe.
I think there are some great songs from the Rainbow and DIO era that they , almost never, played until now on live shows. _________________ Video games are bad for you? That what they said about Rock 'n' Roll... |

Don't get me wrong--I'm very pleased that Dio will be releasing a new song and working on a new album. But my heart absolutely aches when I have to face the reality that a US Dio tour is still far, far away, if it even lies in the future at all. I love H&H, but I can't think of much I wouldn't give to see Dio in concert.
And I'm not familiar at all with Elf (I hope that doesn't make me a less-than-true fan). If there's talk of a reunion, I should start looking in to it! As long as Ronnie's enjoying the work he's getting to do, I'm glad. _________________ "You'll never make me be like you. I'm Master of the Moon!" |

Rest your tears "fiddlequeen" ... .... Its only a matter of time before the highly anticipated Dio U.S. tour is upon us.
I believe Ronnie would love to hit the states in full force and possibly at arena levels??? But in order for this can happen , he's got to build some momentum. Any kind of commercial success for the next Magica albums would help. Definitely another Heaven and Hell album throw in wouldnt hurt.
My dream would be a Dio/Sabbath/Rainbow/Elf Supershow for 2011. Thats my prediction!..... lol..... it could happen! |

The thought did cross my mind that a new album or two in sequel to Magica would create some commercial success that could possibly lead to a US tour.
I understand the need to regain some momentum here. It's just that I'm not the most patient of people...
I suppose in the meantime I'll remember the good times at the past two H&H concerts and I'll keep listening to my daily Dio album. I'm looking forward to some new stuff, and I'm not about to quit hoping to see Dio in concert one day! _________________ "You'll never make me be like you. I'm Master of the Moon!" |

Cha-ching first. The ELF reunion pipe dream thingy has been on for well over 10 years. The Bio pipe dream book has been circulating for over 20 years. Forget about all that. Only things that will happen are ideas that go; cha-ching $$$$$.
Heaven and Hell fills seats in arenas. Record company get$ behind the$e project$, promote and $upport them becau$e they go; cha-ching.
A band like ELF would first have to become reacquainted with an audience. If it all goes well, then major labels take a closer look at the potential. |

Nick how can you say that DIO is doing all these things for money.
Ronnie James Dio motives has always been what the fans want.
You forget this is Ronnie James Dio we are talking about...he does not have to think of new ways to monetize the band's popularity.
I think you getting a little cynical in your old age
Most of the fans in here....listen to Ronnie James Dio's music with their hearts not their wallets. |

Hey HolyMagica.......H&H in Feb.....good predictions huh!!??
As for a Dio US tour, I think its a near definite - why else would Rudy be asking on Facebook how much the US fans would be up for it?? I can only hope he got a heck of a response as Ronnie is well known for giving the fans what they want - hence why I started the thread on what songs for the UK and Eurpoe Tour.......he listens to us the fans!!
As for an Elf reunion.......that would be interesting because lets be honest Elf was a rock n roll/blues band and was a very different thing to Sabbath/Dio......but I think it would be interesting proposition, I do however doubt it would have the same kind of commercial interest as Elf was a long time ago and they hardly had the credibility of Rainbow et al.......but I would go see the show, I will see Ronnie as long as he is on the road and I can get to the gigs!! _________________ Stand up and Shout!!!!! |

Im not saying he is doing this for money. What Im saying is that for him to get any support from publisher or recording company, they want to see a game plan or potential. Maybe if RJD got the ball rolling first, the support would follow. The cha-ching is what the record company looks first at. |
