Interestingly those are the only DIO albums I never listen to...

So to each his own, but I'm quite happy with the change and would love to get another Doug-album.

I think claiming Craig is the number one Dio guitarist because he has been on the most albums is a pretty thin arguement. I have always questioned the loyalty that Ronnie has shown to Craig over the years but I admire what he has done with the band.....I just feel he is the weakest live performer of all the guitarists Dio has worked with.

The only live footage I've seen of Dio has been Holy Diver LIVE...but I think Doug Aldrich did a fantastic job on that gig. He's an amazing guitarist, no doubt. I heartily approve.

Still, I think my favorite Dio guitarist is Craig Goldy. I haven't seen him play live (*still patiently waiting for a US tour!!!*) but I really love his style on everything he's done with Dio.

Personally, I wouldn't complain about any Dio guitarist, as long as I was getting to see them live on stage!

Come on tell us the truth. You just like looking at Doug's wash board abs on stage right?! Smile

Laughing That's hilarious! Actually, I could have done without that part. My brother, however, was quite envious...of both Doug's guitar playing and his abs.

my point that i was trying to put over is that Craig is Ronnie's number one guitarist. after all money talks and ronnie can call on any guitar player in the world but chooses to use Craig that says a lot in my book.

Doug was the man that converted to me the Les Paul. Awsome sound and great power, saying that I always throught Craig wasn't that great, but seeing him last time I thought he was the man. So either way I am happy. My Mrs reckons Doug throws better shapes!! Razz

What on heavens earth is Oh no not Doug again!!!
The guy is amazing, seen him with DIO a few times before and he is awesome! He must have something about him or else Ronnie wouldn't have him back..
If i had to choose what guitar player Ronnie had with him for a tour i would pick Doug before anyone!!! I'm a huge Whitesnake fan also and Doug being apart of both bands is killer! I know everybody has an opinion on who is best to play with Ronnie but for me it's Doug. Hey, im not knocking Craig or Viv etc they are all great players but Doug just makes it extra special for me..
I've met him a few times whilst Whitesnake have toured UK and he's such a cool guy, anyway looking forward to hearing all these classic DIO songs at Sheffield in november, gonna be a great night..
...stand up and shout!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i will still be there as i am not going to completely throw my teddies out of the cot. needless to say this has taken the shine off it for me. i think i'd rather the tour be put back so Craig could do it.

I have no idea where you came up with this!?? Rolling Eyes Doug's work is some of the tightest out there, look at what he did with Heaven and Hell on the Evil or Devine DVD! That was killer work! You are entitled to think anything you wish but you may want to clean out your ears then take a second listen to it. Laughing

He's a hell of a nice guy also! He walked all the way back up to his room to get me guitar picks because i had not caught one at the show. Pretty damn nice in my eyes, and talks to you like an equil as well, he's a great guy!

I totally agre with you Guitargod. Doug is a top man, only met him the once but found him to be generous with his time and very funny. He seemed like a really good fit for Dio and I was saddened when I heard he was off to join whitesnake. Not that I dislike whitesnake just I wanted him to stay with Dio!!

I am really looking forward to the UK shows with Doug. Personally I watch him play and I see a man more 'into' what he is going that Craig. Dont get me wrong Craig is a good player but I just feel Doug gives it more and as a result makes the whole show more of an experience.

As someone who's been playing guitar badly for over 20 years I say Craig and Doug are both fantastic players, each with a different style. Doug is more of a bluesy player (hence the job with Whitesnake), Craig is a very technical player into modes and scales. To my ears that's why Master of the Moon sounds darker than Killing the Dragon, but they're both great albums. Craig & Doug are fast, accurate pickers, and either of them fits Dio perfectly. And they're both able to fire off pretty close versions of the original Blackmore, Iommi, and Viv Campbell solos during a gig. I think I'm right in saying that the last couple of times I've seen Craig & Doug there wasn't one of their own songs in the set list!
Image-wise, Doug is definitely the rock star of the two (low-slung Les Paul, feet apart or maybe one foot up on the monitor), but I'd say Craig is a better fit for Dio's medieval/dragons vibe, if that makes sense...

Now lets consider Tracy G: he's obviously a damn fine guitarist if RJD thought him not just good enough to hire, but to keep in the band for a couple of albums. In my humble opinion his style never suited Dio and the results speak for themselves.

It's like your favourite football team - doesn't matter who scores as long as the results keep coming.

Vivian will always be my favorite, lets face it he was with Ronnie for his biggest DIO albums. Unfortunately we have all seen the videos and what Ronnie thinks of Viv based on what Viv has said about Ronnie. If I could have one wish it would be for them to play togather again, but the wish would be wasted so why bother. Craig would obviously be the second choice, however, I thought that the stuff Done with Doug brought Ronnie back closer to the mainstream again. I just hope the tour comes hear at some point. Remember though this tour was only concieved because of Tony Iommi's surgery and recovery. So I'm assuming we wont get a US tour other than H&H. If thats the case I'm okay with that too.

"I must be in the minority in saying that I highly rate the work Doug has done with Dio and that he is a better showman than Craig and having seen all incarnations of Dio it is my personal view that Doug lifts the show. I am not slating Craig at all, he is an amazing player, but personally Doug doing this tour adds something for me......but everyone has their own views on who they like. All I will say is I am damn happy these dates are happening!![/quote]"

I agree with you, I bought the ticket!!!!

every drop of young blood gives to Dio a new power to the classic sound , Why at the most people doesnt like Tracy G sound?
I love it!!

Judging from dvds, I am really happy Doug will be playing. When I first read that Craig won't be doing this tour I was like what the crap, but my spirits really went up when I heard who's the replacement.

Vivian Campbell was the best for Dio's writing endeavours . Craig was the worst, with a lack of feel, place or key in some cases.Horrible tone, especially live. You guys must be mostly nonplaying singers to suggest he would be the best. Outside of Dio as a band, Iommi was by far the most inspired and best match for Ronnie, period.

Totally disagree with you about Craig Goldy,I love his tone and playing, also his writing is not bad either.
What has Lady Vivian done since Dio...nothing worth wiping your bum with in my opinion.
If Viv was a striker he would be out of my team...to go over 20 years without scoring is a long scoring drought.
He would not even make it on the bench, if his past record since leaving DIO is anything to go by.
