Not sure Bobby, but it is probably a good idea to get a few more reviews from unbiased sources like Guitar World Magazine for that amp.

The other thing that sounds promising is those Techtubes. I think every musician should be obsessing and masturbating over if these tubes are what they claim and I believe they are because of the Blackburn, England history. They have just been officially released last week via e-commerce. I can't wait to hear reviews from the top sources as well. I just picked up a new one, a Jay Turser, to go with my Hagstrom and my kids gio guitar as Chinese made. Damn addicting sometimes...

I have the Canadian model, which is not available in the states at all from what I can see. The US and Canada have completely different line-ups, other than the JT-200. Mine is here:

It's a studio copy. Set neck, mahogany, and junk everything else, though still better than the Gio. It's pretty much comparable to the Epiphones, in that the body is usable, everything else will have to be replaced, but with one very big difference. The Epiphone would cost about 480 Cdn total, while this Turser cost me 150 Cdn. (take off about 11-13% US with the exchange rate)

I was lucky, they under sprayed this, so I actually can see the wood grain on mine, as opposed to the solid cherry red. Epiphone sprays their's solid colours, maybe because theirs are like the JT, 3 pieces of mahogany joined for the body and they don't want it to show. (Wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if the body for each company came out of one factory) With mine, pretty apparent at the back, but still, far better colour, love the cherry stain even if it was unintentional. Pretty heavy guitar, very solid, but could chip easy in the paint. Very glossy as well.

First thing I did was replace the tuners with a matching Grover Vintage style. The electronics are bad, but I have a set of wired pots from a Zack Wilde EMG set that's not being used, Switchcraft jack/plate and a Gibson USA bridge and tail piece. (Have to re drill though, they copied the shape, but certainly didn't copy the sizes for the hardware, all of them are way smaller) New Pickups as well, I'm going to go with the same Rockfield Mafia/Big ass combo that BC Rich is now using for their new War Beast model. Slightly more dollars than the GFS stuff, but I have heard them, and they just sound great and far better for what works out to be 10 dollars more each.

The odd thing is the reviewer from GW on UTube spent 1 minute talking about the Warbeast guitar, and 10 on praising the pickups. Smile

Honestly, even after I upgrade and pay for everything, it will still be cheaper than the Epiphone and yet will be way better. Really, even if it's just as a project, like I am doing, pretty hard to beat that.

Yeah, it is very nice, better looking than the epi at least. I'm very surprised they didn't offer this model in the states, retail is 300 cdn, which is still far cheaper than the epiphone, and the main areas are better. The frets were pretty good, no sharpness, and look as they were put on straight. Nice feeling guitar as well.

It may not be a major brand name, but then it's far cheaper as well, and the quality on this particular unit was very good. I have seen Gibson Studios in worse shape right out of the box. Once she is done up with replacement hardware, be a very good little player.

Besides, where else are you going to get a solid body, set neck mahogany body for that price? Smile

I've always said that knock off brand guitars can be good guitars, i love Fenders and Gibsons and PRS and all those also but over the years have played lots of knock off brands that kicked butt. In fact between the Gibson V and the Epiphone V i like the Epiphone V the best.
I really feel it can be a chance thing because you're talking about a piece of wood, that can vary in density and such so it just depends on how good the chunk of wood is and how well the factory guys were feeling the day they put it all together haha. Laughing

And just like any other factory they may get good materials to work with one year and crappy materials another year, the sound and feel tells all at the end of the line though and that's where i like to play before I buy when ever possible. The first time I ordered a guitar I was nervous about it but in each case so far i've received good ones.

Yeah, you can really spend a lot of money and get a crap guitar, even the so called "big boys". They sure pulled up their socks recently though, I guess they realized that just because there's a G or a F on the headstock, doesn't mean that they could get away with charging a 75% premium, when you could get a pretty decent guitar done up for a third of the price.

The hags are a steal as well. I wouldn't touch most epi's unless someone actually paid me to do so. Actually, the CDN market up here is very good, we get a lot of decent stuff here that you don't see anywhere else. Dillion Cdn, Belmont (Godin's "other" brand) and a lot of models from companies just for our market, Maybe there's a copyright issue or something.

My silly woman bought me a low-line Paul Reed Smith (SE) with a tremlo for our 18th last year and that is a sweet one, they're still a little spendy but nothing like the top line PRS guitars in price. But it has a fat nasty bite with killer action and stays in tune better then most tremlo setups i've had in the past. Don't normally use tremlo but it's very handy in the studio for making cool over-dubs on tracks here and there. Very Happy

I've been hooked on that guitar for a while now.
