...I'd say that Thin lizzy are a Heavy Rock Band...I like to think of the word "Heavy" as refering to the lyrical content...does the band in question refer to controversial or objectional subject matter?...& the second term Rock/Metal defines the musical format...this should be self explanatory...for the most part these days I find myself listening to the hard & heavy "Rock" bands...as they are submitting to much CRAP under the category heavy metal these days...I even like to think of Sabbath as Heavy Rock anymore...it has become the elite phrase to categorize good music to date imo... _________________ ...As long as it's NOT about love... |

The problem with defining a band as Metal, is that lick Rock it has evolved over the years.
Deep Purple
Led Zep
Sabbath
Grand Funk
Thin Lizzy
Queen
Alice Cooper
Kiss
They were all considered Heavy Metal for their time, but now our definition is a little different. They are still Metal, they are just Classic Metal now _________________ Check out Al Diamond Phillips/Nevermet on the web

The list was just some of the bands that were considered Heavy Metal for their time. What we think of them now doesnt really matter, they were the original Heavy Metal bands. It wasnt until the NWOBHM redefined Metal in the late 70' early eighties that we change our idea of what Metal was. _________________ Check out Al Diamond Phillips/Nevermet on the web

Yeah but NWOBHM is not from New York
Remember NWOBHM was born becoz of the decline of bands such as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.
Even I was getting bored with Deep Purple
But then Iron Maiden came along and changed me forever and their music introduced to the likes of Accept, Saxon etc.
It even took you guys in the USA a while to even accept Iron Maiden How many records did folks in the USA burn becoz they thought Iron Maiden were into Satan It took 2 years before the USA was buying the same amount of units in Japan,Europe and Canada...shame on you guys
Bobby I know Ronnie was in Black Sabbath but he joined them just at the right time..when NWOBHM was just being born...when I talk about the decline of Sabbath...I am meaning the latter years with Ozzy and the latter years of Deep Purple with David Coverdale.
Its was boring 30mins solos and giant venues...
This is one of the reasons why kids back then...and I was one of them turned their backs on the likes of Deep Purple etc.
The heart and soul of NWOBHM back then was to stick 2 fingers up to anything mainstream and towards the rock culture of the 70s..this was our time now!
It was great back then...we had a voice in bands like Maiden, Saxon, Diamond Head and Motorhead etc.
So please Bobby NWOBHM was not born in the USA. |

| Black Sabbath nor Deep Purple or DIO are heavvy metal bands, I think. There was no "heavy metal" genre in early seventies, it was figured out by some people who wanted to make more money. |
