The very first one, RB's Rainbow, is my favourite, although much simpler, particularly the instrumental playing is not as virtuosistic; it has my absolute Rainbow favourite song, The Temple of the King.
After that I would advise one of the live albums, not On Stage or Live in Germany, but one from the Deutschland Tournee 1976 series.
Not forgetting Long Live Rock 'N' Roll of course!
The reason I don't recommend On Stage or Live in Germany is that they are not full concerts, they are selected bits from the 3 Deutschland Tournee concerts. |

IMO Rising is the best! then long live. I don't like the first one that much because of Cozy.
On stage is greay, and Germany, I agree, is not that good but it's nice.
I don't like Rainbow without Ronnie |

actually, I never heard non-Dio Rainbow; I have e.g. Finyl Vinyl, but only ever heard the Dio bits...
I don't plan to anyway. Whatever way I look at it, Rainbow was formed in 1975 and ended in 1978. After that, Dio switched guitarrist.

I;d have to second RB Rainbow. It is my personal favourite album from the Dio Rainbow, and with some very strong songs. _________________

| Get all of the Dio fronted ones. Now. They are absolutely awesome all of them. I'd say Rising is the best, but the other ones are almost as good. |

All of Dio's work in this band is great. Pick up all the albums.
Lately I have watched the Live in Munich video many times. I consider this to be Dio in his prime. The music is so beautiful. It's markedly good and different from his career that followed with Black Sabbath. It's also vastly different from the solo stuff.
Ronnie in Rainbow is some of my most favorite music ever. After watching the 'Catch the Rainbow' performance on the live Munich dvd, I went to the studio recording and had forgotten how beautiful that was also. _________________ "Too many flames, with too much to burn, and life's only made of paper." - RJD |
