Difficult choice.... Both have had some incredible material, and very parallel histories... Would rather see them co headline a tour than choose between them.

They should tour together and do it Temptations/Four Tops style, where they traded song for song back and forth.

LOVE Maiden (of course!) ...but they will NEVER take Priest off MY 'top-shelf' slot. Priest are just friggin' MASSIVE.

In a more conjoined sense, both bands have done so much and given metal so much of the legacy and majesty the genre enjoys today. They're BOTH owed serious thanks for what they've brought to the proverbial 'table.'

Hey Holy - you like Saxon? Love those guys too, great band, especially on stage. There albums are good, but not often in my player, but whenever I get a chance to see them play, I have to go... one hell of a fantastic band, and also very nice with the fans Smile

About the main question here - I prefer Maiden, although both bands are great Smile

Metal2767 Smile
I like Saxon big time...when the NWOBHM was just starting it was always Iron Maiden and Saxon, I could relate more to their songs than Judas Priest.

I've gotten much deeper into both bands since I made this thread and still would take the pure entertainment and raw sound of Judas Priest over Iron Maiden who really do mean almost as much to me, as a bass player I respect Steve Harris a lot for breaking down the walls of tradition by moving the bass in Heavy Metal from an un noticed shadow to the very front! The sound, the galloping, the fore frontal battle between 2... no THREE now, THREE lead guitarists. Wow.

The progressive, deeper, more complexed song writing of Iron Maiden though is a huge bonus but it all comes down to the voice for me.
Rob Halford takes the gold anyday. Very Happy

iron maiden for me all the way.

saw them in bergen last month (heaven @ hell were the original support which was half the reason for going). they are still immense.

i like judas priest, legends obviously, and their 70's records are very important/influential.

maiden are miles better a live band though, steve harris is the true metal god!.
