Another reason why Rainbow was better he was the originol & there is never really any question about that Dio is the Best singer for the band.

Were as Sabbath there is constant deabate & imo Ozzy is more suited to the band. there first 6 albums were amazing.
then there is Ian Gillan & Tony Martain both fantasic Singers.

Which do you prefer? While I really LOVE Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules, when you throw in LE and Dehumanizer, for me it tips the scale to Rainbow... and 2 months ago if you had told me this, I would have said you're crazy:) Really have been playing a lot of Rainbow:)

A very tough and great question, but since I MUCH prefer Iommi's style over Blackmore's, and I think that H and H is one of the BEST Rock and Metal albums EVER, adding that to the great Mob Rules follow up and the ASS kicking Heaven and Hell 2, otherwise known as Dehumanizer...I would have to say that hands down...it's Dio Sabbath for me!

Make that 2 of us Scott!!!

Dehumanizer has grown on me since I first bought it, to call it H&H2 does it an injustice in many respects, this album sounds as tho it should have been the follow-up to H&H rather than MR.

Still, we all have our own opinions on each release and how they've stood the test of time, or not as the case maybe.

I find myself eagerly awaiting the "debut" Heaven And Hell studio album!! If "The Devil Cried" and "Shadow Of The Wind" are anything to go by, it should be an absolute corker!!!

Cool

Tough call. I love Sabbath, and Iommi was one of my biggest guitar influences. The first 2 Sabbath albums may just be awesome enough to tie them with Rainbow for me.

I'm also not very fond of Dehumanizer.

This is a hard one. When I first heard the song Man on the Silver Mountain many years ago I became a big Rainbow fan. There are so many great songs with Rainbow that are still played today. I have to say that I perfer Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio. It isn't that I don't like Ozzy I like Ozzy with Black Sabbath but I think Ronnie James Dio has a better voice. So I can't say I love both bands music.

Black Sabbath's Ronnie-era was my absolute favorite band from the early to mid '80's, and Live Evil was my favorite album ever (that voice! those leads!). Until I heard Rainbow Rising.

Rainbow's been my favorite band ever since. Only the Ronnie and Graham Bonnet albums, after 1980 everything sucked in my humble opinion.

I'd go with Sabbath although I do think Long Live rock N roll and rainbow rising are definite classics.

I love all of Dio's stuff with Sabbath and H & H. To me, the only think I dislike about live evil is the mix but the performance is awesome. I would love to see a remix of that album. Hey, if the beatles can put out a remix of let it be... why not??? Smile

Rainbow. Tough choice though. Only because the Rainbow was at the beginning of my playing days, and I played them over and over to learn them with the heaphones cranked!
Cozey was a huge influence of mine, and Tony Carey had some great leads on the keys. Dio always sounded great on everything, so I could never choose anything of his vocally to be my favorite.
Geezer and Iommi were my favorite on bass and guitar with him though...

Difficult question, but then again, not so difficult. The Rainbow classics like Gates of Babylon and Stargazer are truly exceptional. But the albums are not that consistent for some reason. Heaven and Hell is perhaps my favorite non-Dio Dio album (I know you know what I mean), its sound is current even today, maybe because of its 70's sound. Mob rules is also great, but has not stood the test of time equally well. It has clearly the 80's sound which I find, well, a bit dusty. Yet it is a great album with tracks like Falling of the edge of the world and the like. Live evil gives me mixed feelings, vocals are absolutely fantastic, but e.g. Heaven and hell is (if I recall correctly) one veery long and quite boring guitar solo. Dehumanizer sounds like the music comes out of a cartridge box, but includes the absolutely great track Too late. As much as I love Dio, I'm not so fond of the later Sabbath or H&H stuff. Well, Live from radio city music hall is excellent, though. So, perhaps I go with early Dio years of Sabbath, but note the real gems from the Rainbow era.

The fact that I am here as a fan should tell everyone that I really like Dio, but that does not mean that every song is my all-time favorite. So there was the disclaimer I had decided not to include...

Rock on!

STARGAZER is probably my fave RJD song ever, but I guess the Rainbow albums were a bit inconsistant compared to the awesome Sabbath albums so I have to pick Sabbath.

Indeed, tough call. Blackmore is the first real virtuoso rock guitarist, while Iommi was much heavier and played the song rather than his solo. Ronnie did great work with both, so I really couldn't choose. His work with Sabbath/H&H has been more consistent, so I'd have to give the nod to that band with Dio. However, note that Rainbow seemed to go on a downward trajectory without Dio, while Sabbath made a pretty decent album with Gillan after Dio's departure, then it was downhill for them until Dio's return. So there you have it; Dio is the missing component for both bands!

rainbow fullfills all my musical needs if that makes sense. I feel complete after listening...Stargazer is the ultimate and my all time fav. Had it played at all the special events in my life. No song has ever made me feel like that and after all these years, it still has the same effect on me. Sabbath is a great vibe but takes second place for meeeee.
