There's a version of Gates of Babylon in the album Holy Dio, performed by Yngwie Malmsteen and Jeff Scott Soto.
Have you listened to this version of the song? Do you like it?
Since it's many people's favourite song from Dio I want to know your opinion.
Please don't start a neverending discussion about Ritchie Blackmore and Yngwie Malmsteen and who's best and who has a bigger ego
I like it, though I like the original version best.
Edit: Oops, I forgot to add the last option, silly me
Edit 2: Corrected, when I looked for the song title I found that Dio was on vocals on the Malmsteen version, I later found out that the vocalist is Jeff Scott Soto. Sorry about the mistake! I hope this still qualifies for this section of the forums! _________________ We rock!

OK, I just found out it's either a version made by Yngwie Malmsteen and Jeff Scott Soto of the original song or a remix (Dream on is a remix probably, as far as I know they never recorded that together...). I'll try to change the poll accordingly. Sorry about the mess _________________ We rock! |

no worries, you are very welcome!
and yes, the link is wonderful, start on
www.dio.net
and explore, particularly the discography section is the most complete on all things Dio; for instance, there you will find that Dio sang one song in Italian...
I find the vinyl bootlegs particularly interesting, I collect them, when I first found this site and saw it, it was like Ali Baba's cave opening up, full of treasures! Now some of the records shown there are my own, I sent the webmaster (Tapio) the pics. |

The original is better for sure... but will have to notice that Holy Dio is a really great tribute album!
Only one weak performance there IMO, and that's "The Last In Line"... the singer really sucks and the sound quality isn't very good either.
But there are many great covers there, most notably "Holy Diver", "Long Live Rock & Roll", "Egypt (The Chains Are On)", "Don't Talk To Strangers" and "Temple Of The King", all better than the originals to me.
