Maybe stargazer needs to read some of the interviews done by Geezer and Tony, in which they both state that it was great to be able to play the Dio-era material without being weighted down by the expectation of playing "War Pigs" "Iron Man" et al during the Heaven And Hell tour.

From listening to, and reading, the intervews it is plain to see that they wanted to get away from the (crap) Osbourne material and concentrate wholly on writing and performing with RJD.

Cool

I'm no ozzy fan but to say the ozzy material is crap is a bit harsh to say the least, and as i stated as an employee of 'clear channel entertainment' a lot of metal fans did not realize who heaven and hell were until it was too late, that may explain why UK venues were only 60% full...if the band had been called 'black sabbath ( the dio years)...things would be much clearer.....also i think you would find that if mr osbourne suddenly suggested a sabbath tour and new album mr Iommi and Butler would jump at the chance..!

On 'HEAVEN AND HELLS' tour of the UK fans were still shouting for the ozzy stuff, (paranoid, ironman etc)...indeed it got rather nasty at some points when Ronnie lost his temper when beer was being thrown on stage because of the lack of ozzy songs....so whether its black sabbath or heaven and hell does not matter..you'll always get die hard ozzy fans...IMO they would have been better off calling the tour / band ' BLACK SABBATH ( THE DIO YEARS)..fans would then know exactly what they were getting........

So none of these "die-hrad fans" were able to work out from all the press releases and the release of the live album BEFORE the UK tour started that it wasn't going to be a "Black Sabbath" tour??

By Christ there are some proper f*****g numpties about!!!!

actually there was a distinct lack of press releases until a few weeks before the tour was due to start, and in the USA tickets were very late going on sale....again the live album being released under the 'heaven and hell' banner confused people.

That is an utter load of b******s!!!!!!!

I brought my ticket for the Brighton gig in May, some 6 months before the gig, and tickets for the whole UK tour were on sale at the same time.

The tour was being talked about on this very site months in advance of the tour.

I was principally talking about the US and Canada dates , tickets went on sale 10 weeks before the first gig...this is not long enough.

I'm a US fan, bought the tickets to the Winnipeg gig just a few weeks before the show, and I knew what to expect because I have a brain. Iommi owns the Black Sabbath name. There are therefore no legal restrictions to his use of the name in any way that pleases him, so the only possible reason for them NOT to use the Black Sabbath name was so they would not have to play Ozzy-era material. If you went to the Heaven & Hell show expecting to hear War Pigs then it's because you are an idiot.

I think the name change is valid. It may be true that they're having some issues with fans over the lack of '70s material now, but if they called it Black Sabbath it would be impossible for them to perform without playing Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Iron Man, War Pigs, and Children of the Grave at the very least... that's 1/3 of the show! By distinguishing that line-up as a seperate entity they're able top focus exclusively on material they recorded together.

The music Sabbath recorded during the '70s is anything but crap. Sabbath has always been the world's greatest metal band regardless of who was on vocals. I'll agree that the band did it's best work after they fired Ozzy's overrated ass, but the first six Sabbath albums are all flawless masterpieces (seriously, there is NO FILLER on any of those albums) in spite of Ozzy's presence.

Dio is the new singer in Black Sabbath, so start using the Black Sabbath moniker ...

excellent point....and can someone tell me why the new box set 'rules of hell' is under the black sabbath name..yet the same band is now heaven and hell..?

Because all 4 of those albums were originally released AS Black Sabbath. Was that meant to be a trick question?

What is so ironic and how moronic some fans are is that some ozzy era fanatics stressed that once Ozzy left that it was no longer Sabbath and should had renamed itself when Dio came on board. They do this 3rd time around after Iommi and Butler have been fused to ozzy era stuff for 10 some years and fans are whining they do not call themselves Sabbath.

Even Ronnie himself has been quoted as saying what ever you call it, its still Black Sabbath. Having said that, anyone who is a fan of the Dio era Sabbath material, would not be confused by the name Heaven and Hell. We all know where the name comes from, and all respect the effort to differentiate the era. Do I wish they just called it sabbath? Sure. Does it matter that they didnt? No.

I like the "new band" Heaven and hell. Dio is part of the story of Black Sabbath but the band is related with Ozzy and don't forget Tony Martin, even Guillan and Hughes are part of that story. Heaven and Hell means Black Sabbath with Dio, FOR DIO'S FANS!!!

I only became a 'SABBATH' fan when Ronnie arrived. I don't care for the ozzy stuff, so I am not one of the moronic fans as you so respectfully put it that wanted the band name changed when ozzy left. I have always wanted it as black sabbath and still do now.

That is my whole point. Dio fans will recognise the name Heaven and Hell, but what about the new fans the band are trying to attract.?..I still make the point that i know many people who would have bought tickets if they realized who Heaven and hell were, when they found out they were dio/sabbath they were dissopointed to have missed out......this means lost ticket sales..get my point..?

Not really, no. The phrase "clutching at straws" springs to mind. This site and Joe Seigler's Sabbath site, to mention but two, were heralding this event for months in advance. Maybe these "many people" that you elude too need to get with the 21st Century. I saw many people at Brighton who were fully aware of who they were there to see, and the number of comments posted on this site and many other band's forums leads me to believe that the Heaven & Hell project was well known, not to mention well received. YouTube was hosting Iommi/Butler/Dio interviews long before "The Dio Years" compilation was released which fully explained what the plans were.
