To come back so long after Dehumanizer and do a tour was fantastic.

Iommi: Yes. We talked about it on the last part of the tour. In Japan I said to Ronnie, "Are you up for doing a new album, or what?" and everybody seems really keen to do it.
Total Guitar: Presumably this new album pushes any new recordings from the Ozzy Osbourne-led lineup of BLACK SABBATH further into the future?
Iommi: It does, yes. This project will be a lot quicker, because it makes sense to go into a HEAVEN AND HELL album soon after the tour — while it's still remembered, really.
Total Guitar: Ten years ago I bet you wouldn't have predicted that you'd now be recording a new album as HEAVEN AND HELL, right?
Iommi: No! You just never know. It's been like that for our whole lives, to be honest with you. We do things because they seem like a good idea at the time. |

excellent point....and can someone tell me why the new box set 'rules of hell' is under the black sabbath name..yet the same band is now heaven and hell..? |

yes it does really matter because the original reason for using heaven and hell was because of the 'ozzy' years and the 'ozzy' black sabbath being put into the hall of fame. Well ozzy's off the scene now so lets just get back to black sabbath they would sell more tickets, theres still alot of fans of metal who don't realize who heaven and hell are. |

And so if they go out under Black Sabbath people will expect the lineup which is in the Hall of Fame. In fact, when I saw H&H last year, I found a number of people there who were still expecting the Ozzy era stuff to be played even under the Heaven and Hell banner. There's no getting away from the preconceived idea of who Black Sabbath is - Ozzy up front, slow, plodding metal. I love both lineups, and I'm sure loads of the fans on here do. Unfortunately not everyone is so willing to accept anther frontman.
I still can't offer a suggestion for the name though!

Maybe stargazer needs to read some of the interviews done by Geezer and Tony, in which they both state that it was great to be able to play the Dio-era material without being weighted down by the expectation of playing "War Pigs" "Iron Man" et al during the Heaven And Hell tour.
From listening to, and reading, the intervews it is plain to see that they wanted to get away from the (crap) Osbourne material and concentrate wholly on writing and performing with RJD.

Crap Ozzy material???? Are you out of your mind? Do not get me wrong I love the RJD stuff as much as the next person but Ozzy has had a major impact in metal, both with Sabbath and as a solo artist. You may not like Ozzy now, but he was a metal God while in Sabbath. Two totally different singing styles by two great frontmen. They both have put their mark in the history of heavy metal, in Sabbath and as solo artists. I myself do not think Sabbath would have made it without Ozzy, just as Rainbow wouldn't without Ronnie. You may love RJD the best, but you have to give credit where credit is due. JMO

On 'HEAVEN AND HELLS' tour of the UK fans were still shouting for the ozzy stuff, (paranoid, ironman etc)...indeed it got rather nasty at some points when Ronnie lost his temper when beer was being thrown on stage because of the lack of ozzy songs....so whether its black sabbath or heaven and hell does not matter..you'll always get die hard ozzy fans...IMO they would have been better off calling the tour / band ' BLACK SABBATH ( THE DIO YEARS)..fans would then know exactly what they were getting........ |
