Well I saw it on the grocery story rack and bought it...knowing I'd be extremely pissed if RJD wasn't in it...some of you know how much I have bitched and complained about his lack of proper recognition
Well I am happy to report Rainbow and Dio are in it...Not too happy with what they wrote about Ronnie in the intro for Rainbow...but hey, they are entitled to their opinions I guess .
Anyway, if you see it, pick it up...it is full of killer pictures. _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

Okay, just got back in town and grabbed the mag...hhmmmm, let's see,
Regarding Rainbow...They referred to them as "A Tempestuous Force" whatever the hell that means...I googled it and have a loose understanding of tempestuous, but it's not much...
"Despite whatever hard rocking heights it may have reached, in the eyes of many-including it's key members-Rainbow was always concidered the "other" band."
It went on to say...this is the part that I didn't really like too much, "And it was also the "other" band for the group's original vocalist Ronnie James Dio, who despite the wide-spread notariety his work with Rainbow would generate during that band's mid-70's heyday, would go on to bigger, though not necessarily better things with both black Sabbath and Dio" Yuck.
Rainbow was F'ing incredible with Ronnie, Black Sabbath with Ronnie completely blows the doors off BS with Ozzy, and Dio has done so much kick-ass music that this "other" person doesn't know shit, IMO
Let's see, what does it say about Dio...They call him the "Dragon Slayer" which I find kind of silly because his music is just so much more than dragons... I could have come up with better names for him, but will refrain .
"...everyone has respect for his unmatched vocals and stage presence" It goes on to say, "On a string of chart-topping discs, including Holy Diver, The Last in Line and Dream Evil, Dio's larger than life vocal power and ability to present sweeping, panoramic, highly melodramatic metal moments cast him in the role as one of the form's most talented performers" and "....even in 2006...he continues to record and tour, his voice and stage persona as powerful as ever" YES!!!
The spread on Dio was all positive. It makes me very happy to read the kind of review the man deserves
I hope that answered your question Ghostrider _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

Nurse Ratched..I think what they mean is Rainbow's different line ups through the years...when Ronnie left Rainbow I would have used the word hysterical instead of tempestuous
Don't worry about what is written we all know that Dio/Rainbow = Pure Class. It was Rock and Heavy Metal refinement at its best.
Other Members/Rainbow at the end of the day...as far as I am concern was all about breaking into the USA and $ was more important than the music.Rainbow without Dio was always about commercial success but with Dio it was always about the music.
It's hard trying to pick a Rainbow song after DIO song with any substance ''Eyes of the World'' & ''Eyes of Fire'' is the only songs that comes to mind for me but with Dio and Rainbow....there is not many songs that lack that unchanging essence of something bloody brilliant |

I'm not worried about it HM...I just like to express my opinion about how wrong others are
I was happy to see the Dio review, but at the same time, I don't really care about Hit Parade, VH1 or any other form of review. It's just someone else's opinion. But it's out there and people are reading it, so I had to see where RJD ranked.
And actually, they said what you said about them not caring about the money...just the music...hey, you're pretty smart HM _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

Depends who wrote it. Some muso-journos have been around the block more times than all of us on this forum combined.
