Okay, this place is completely dead...or somethings wrong with my computer
I know Ronnie hates American Idol, but while listening to Rocking Chair Rock n Roll Blues the other day, and really listening to the beginning, I pondered...what would happen if there was an American Idol back then, or Ronnie was the right age now....
Two questions...
1. Do you think he would get voted in?
2. If yes, which song do you think he should sing?
Technically given the age factor, it would have to be from the Elf era, but if you aren't familiar with Elf, pick any song.
IMO, he would walk in there and blow there minds with just about anything he has done, but my pick from the Elf era would be either Happy or Nevermore...
Discuss...

That will luckily never happen haha...
Why the hell should he go to some friqqin Idols as he is over SIXTY years old and does great in his own area of heavy metal? Why would he NEED to do that?
And anyways, AI is not interested about heavy metal. There are other countries, especially Finland which are more interested in heavy metal, but still, Idols was made for finding new performers for the needs of the music industry - AND THAT is the thing that many professionals hate - Idols produces singers, not songwriters. And that's a FACT.

Okay, you obviously missed the point entirely. I'm not saying Ronnie should try out for A.I. now...and if you would have read what I wrote, I brought up the Elf era which is when he was the right age. That is not heavy metal.
This forum is dead right now so I thought I would ask a question that some would find interesting. You just like to be rude...whatever...others on here have wondered what would happen if someone like RJD or Geoff Tate walked in while in their 20's and tried out...we have discussed how they haven't seen anything like these guys-Tate would still blow them away, imo
If I wasn't clear enough, not now in his 60's, although if they had an AI for guys 50+, he'd smoke 'em. And I know he despises the show and all it represents...Just a silly question. We used to do that around here MM. _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

I think Mysterioman indeed did miss the point of the topic.
She was just pondering WHAT IF....RJD was to have done something like this bitd IF we had an Anerican Idol back then,
or if he was of a younger age that would allow him to try out now. |
Call me lame, but I think about things like that...I could just see those 3 idiots watching this little Italian guy-when he was under 30-walk in and sing. His voice was beautiful back then, still is.
Gambler Gambler huh? I don't think I have that on my ipod...I will give it a listen...Thanks MtRC _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

Hm,It's too bad,I don't have that song anymore.I really think it should have been included on the anthology.
Indeed,Ronnie's voice is amazing. He has such a range with it.
I mean,it's kind of hard to believe the guy who sang Heaven and Hell sang Rainbow Eyes |

Or the way he starts out in SOtSC, very melodic and beautiful, then his voice changes to such power....
That would be a good one to blow the minds of the 3 bobble head on AI...
Streetwalker would also be a good one for a 70's era AI...IMO. _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |

i don't think that Dio in his character will be in American Idol even if he is younger...
but me too think that "Gambler Gambler "will be good (even for simon) and "rocking chair rocking roll blues" and defenatly "street walker" or "Black "Swampy water" |

The Early stuff from the Red Caps, and the Prophets would fit into the AI format. _________________ Check out Al Diamond Phillips/Nevermet on the web

Interesting topic.
How about thoughts on who the 3 judges would have been as well?? Time wise, you're talking early 70's?? So maybe Bing Crosby?? Petula Clark?? Elvis??
As for a song for RJD to have sung, how about something outside of Elf?? "Ferry Cross The Mersey"???

Just to be clear, I know Ronnie isn't the type to do this, but then again, who knows what he was like back then? Maybe not so jaded. RJD in his 20's may have tried out...we will never know. The man today would probably be disgusted that I even came up with this thread, but that's okay...it's just for fun
As far as judges...Maybe Soupy Sales, Charles Nelson Riley and Betty White
I'm not familiar with the song mentioned above... _________________ "...you were a fool but that's cool, it's alright!" |
