I personally remember when the Beatles were on the Ed Sullivan show, and staying up late to watch them when I was about 6.
There have been phases of off-an-on Beatles backlash, especially when they were huge, but I think it's hard to overestimate what a good band they were, what talented singers and songwriters they were, and even what good musicians they were (not really fair to compare them to 80's or 90's musicians now, is it? Most of their best stuff was recorded pre-1968 so it makes sense they don't play like Yngwe.)
Their production was also always very good - ironic since the equipment were using was not even state-of-the-art for that time! George Martin was a television sound engineer, and essentially recorded them in a TV studio setup! This is probably why he didn't ruin their records with Phil Spector type bullshit.
Listen to the records Beatles 4 Sale, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Magical Mystery Tour and the White Album to hear what they could really do apart from all the hype.

Songs like "Hey Bulldog", "All Too Much," "Revolution," "Yer Blues", "Helter Skelter" and many others were HEAVY METAL classics way before their time! (another trend they were way before!)

During the sixties, The Beatles were better than The Stones. That's it about them.

Cool

The thing with the Beatles is that they were innovators. They did not follow any trends, they started them. Les Paul invented the 4 track, but it wasnt until the beatles that we saw the potential that multi-track recording truly had. They made Spectors wall of sound obsolete. Very Happy

There was no Beatles of the 70s. Let It Be, their last album was released in 1970, the same year they broke up.

There was a great debate on the Radio today...its Beatles Day in Liverpool today....the debate was the Beatles where overrated, some even said they where the Spice Girls of there time Shocked Laughing
As the 60s was not really my era for buying music as I was too young Razz I really think they are overrated as well.
