I don't rate....Mark Vanderbilt...he brought nothing to the table...and Kamelot was going nowhere fast with him, without Roy seeing the potential in Youngblood and Kamelot,
they would have disappeared for sure...I would not say being Opera trained and using orchestral arrangements as being modern or progressive...Mark Vanderbilt as a vocalist does not even come to close to Roy's range or sound ...Roy has a rich, controlled voice..its full of charisma and Roy brings fluidity and quality when you listen to Kamelot with Roy you get passion, the vocals are emotive and consistently strong throughout...don't take my word for it...read the reviews of the cds...with Roy. Kamelot does not do things in half measures...its full on...there new cd ''Ghost Opera''takes them to another level since ''The Black Halo''its even better...with Kamelot you get perfection and quality...Mark who Confused

Indeed, Roy Khan is an outstanding vocalist. Just as you said, Holy, he has the power, the range, but when I compare the last two studio outputs (Opera, Halo), it turns out that (at least to me): over the last two years Khan has been losing his range, Opera is sung in a lower register than its predecessor. Also, it seems hard for him to pull off the higher notes he attempts to sing on the last album. Overall though, he's my last discovery as far EXTRAORDINARY SINGERS CATEGORY go.

Opera is not on par with Halo which I consider Kamelot's magnum opus. Halo appears to be more diverse, and additionally, the song writing is a bit better. Still, the 2007 album (Opera) is still one hell of an album. I give it a spin on a daily basis.

When I listen to Halo...I feel its all about vocal performance and great vocals and songs by Khan, but with the Opera cd...its the guitar riffs and solos that shine out more, thats why I like them both so much.
