Well, I guess I must take a look at Celtic/Renessaince, that's sure older than any Antonio Vivaldi etc.
I started up a year/song/artist list and that goes from Antonio Vivaldi to year 2008, well I don't have much stuff on my computer (about 7700 songs altogether plus music videos etc. in my other comp which is dam broken) but I will get more.
It is cool to start thinking about the roots of music. Babylonia comes first to my mind, I don't know why but maybe they made something musically important. At least, that place is culturally so well-known that I can picture "Babylonian music" in my head pretty easily - it's exactly like "Gates Of Babylon".

That is a composer my mom has never liked I think, and I even myself got a weird love/hate relationship to him. I think he concentrated more towards harmony, one great melody comes to my mind, "Für Elise". Strange guy, somehow.
Beethoven was an amazing guy when he was making improvisation, I have heard... played some notes of a rival backwards, and created a masterpiece haha... well that's skill
