I'm gonna choose the Dio show @ Water & Rock Festival in Lahti, because the following day it's more suitable for me to go from there to Tampere for the Sauna Open Air Metal Festival: Graham Bonnet & Joe Lynn Turner joint show called "Back To The Rainbow" and the headliner is Whitesnake. Again, Dio is the main act of that weekend, all the rest are more of a after-show cooling...but then again they are great artists in their own right! I just loved the GB&JLT show in Tampere on August 8th 2007, they both kicked ass!!! And, of course, Judas Priest will launch the summer season on the 3rd of June in Hellsinki...
What a great year of heavy rock this will be. _________________ HEAVY FUCKING METAL!!! |

| This is great news. There's going to be be one hell of show for 6.6. Just hoping Dio sticks in Dio songs added with few Rainbow tracks. That's because last summer I saw Heaven and Hell in Sauna Open Air. |

Dio live on stage tomorrow!!!
Here are my last minute wishes, the songs to die for (I just got hear these live):
Kill The King (every rocker must hear this live at least once, maybe this time it happens at last for me...)
Sacred Heart (I simply go crazy if this song is unleashed live, an absolute must!!! One of the most important Dio songs for me, I simply can't express myself enough of how deep this song cuts in...Please, please...)
My Eyes (Top 3 vocal performances of Dio, what a great song!)
Egypt (The Chains Are On) (heard this only once, maybe now for the second time)
Gates Of Babylon (I was with the 3rd audience ever to hear this live from Dio back in 2004, a replay was given to us twice in 2005...once more please!)
Holy Diver (this song started the whole Dio-esque worshipping for me, so I want this song again this time!)
Rock 'n' Roll Children (one of the dearest Dio songs for me, I want this live before it's too late!!!)
Sixteenth Century Greensleeves (one of the greatest Rainbow songs...)
Catch The Rainbow (heard just a little part of this in 2006, I want the all-time greatest Rainbow song live in full!!!)
Lock Up The Wolves (my God, what a great and massive song...)
Why Are They Watching Me (total heavy rock excellence, a true head-splitting, fists-aloft banger!!!)
Lord Of The Last Day (the ultimate HEAVY METAL song of Magica) _________________ HEAVY FUCKING METAL!!! |

Well, what could i say, the gig was great as dios gigs allways are. but couple of minuses.
First, No heaven and hell? wtf? or any other Dio era sabbath songs.
Second, It was FAR TOO LOUD!, any other dio gigs, including 2005 xmas teatria gig, i was able to listen without earplugs with no problem, tought that i dont need them now and left them home :/. Well i think i have hearing problem now. Yes my own fault i know but still im not onlyone with this opinion.
Otherwise the gig was still great, Sacred Heart, Kill the King, and rock n roll children was great positive suprises. |

Ronnie James Dio is still the Grand Voice of Metal! From clean clarity to roaring thunder, the Voice was full of flawless and tireless power!!! I can't believe He is still doing it live on stage on this level of perfection, RJD has truly earned his professional last name. RJD will be at least 66 this year - maybe even 68 or 70 as many people say - and has a recording and performing career of 50 years, 3 world-reknown band affiliations and several classic albums under his belt...and RJD is still going strong!!! NO-ONE ELSE has the same status as RJD. The whole band was on fire as well, Craig is still one of the OTT guitar slingers, firing on all 6 like hell! I loved the sound of Rudy, rumbling precision...Simon's drum battery was again HEAVY METAL!!!
As I reflect my wishes, I can't believe the awesome setlist:
Holy Diver
Killing The Dragon
The Eyes
Don't Talk To Strangers
Sacred Heart
Rainbow In The Dark
The Temple Of The King
Kill The King
Lord Of The Last Day
Rock 'n' Roll Children
Man On The Silver Mountain
Catch The Rainbow
Long Live Rock 'n' Roll
The Last In Line
We Rock
I think it was a great idea to play only Rainbow and Dio songs, Sabbath songs will be played exclusively again next year. More time to play something special. RJD has now 2 band dimensions, the one to play Rainbow and Dio with and the other to play Sabbath with. Great!
The overall sound was NOT too loud. I was in the front row and I could listen the half of the show without any ear plugs (I wanted some songs full on, but some songs were somewhat too loud so I plugged in...). All instruments were in a very good balance, not to mention the voice from Hell...Some sorry-ass whiner somewhere said that Dio is starting to slow down and fade away. FUCK THAT IGNORANCE AND DECRIAL!!! Dio is still going strong and heavy, the band is fired up and Dio himself is still singing perfectly with great, tireless power!
We spent the night in Lahti and then headed to Tampere S:O:A, but that's another story... _________________ HEAVY FUCKING METAL!!! |
