From the horse's mouth he stated it was not about anything in our world. It was a christ like figure who saved a world and wanted to now leave that world to go to another. The people though would not let him go and kept telling him evil existed. [they could see stripes] He said no evil is gone. [that were not there in reality, ie clean]. _________________ Smacks & Manly Thumps,

why do they always think it is about god?

Think about the Old Holy Wells of Cornwall?
I believe the answer to your question is in Cornish folklore, this is a place of legends, Tristan and Isolt, King Mark, Uther Pendragon, Merlin the Magician and King Arthur. There is holy sites dedicated to Celtic goddesses in Cornwall. |
EVERYTHING you just described is about god, or A god; holy sites, buildings etc. remember old english history that you are describing (king arthur, etc.) BEGINS with religion, everything that was done was for god, with him in mind etc. so it may be about a god before christ but i doubt it. besides, the poor guy going for a swim on the cover is a catholic priest. sounds to me he's saying someone wanted to be a priest, then started to see how full of it the church is so decided to 'ride the tiger' of seeing the good and bad of both worlds, ultimately having to make a choice - theres no good or bad, theres only what you believe to be right and the guy was having probs seeing that. |

The album cover and the song are two different things.
Ronnie has stated in interviews what he intended by the song Holy Diver.
It is a savior type figure who saves a world and then as he is leaving to go to the next world the people will not let him go. They continue to believe evil is about and he says no it is gone. They see one thing, he sees another.
That would be the only link in concept between the song and the album cover in that the album cover is a not what it seems to be analogy. Who is the demon and who is the priest. What is good and what is evil.
As a Ronnie vocal solo for Voodoo stated: "Evil is in the eye of the beholder."
Remember the training scene in Men in Black where he shoots the little girl? Ordinarily everyone would assume what look like monsters are bad while thinking the little girl is harmless and good but the opposite in that case was true.
Looks are decieving and judging on outward appearances only can land one in trouble. So the album cover's intent is for you to question if you are seeing what your mind is perceiving or is the image wrong. _________________ Smacks & Manly Thumps,
