I guess I'm wondering why Dio is so scared to play in the states? Other than H&H shows that is. Why are all of his shows overseas?

I'll bet he'd say something like the sales are good overseas. Well they should be. You play here (overseas) all the time. Had you considered playing in the USA from time to time, your sales would have increased a bunch.

I guess using the old school of management of, well we were big here in the early 80s so we'll play here crap is really paying off.

I will say this. Don't be ashamed of where you come from. The USA has everyday metal heads born on to them. Every year it's a new season. Don't waste your time on the flock so much that loves you already. There are many more who are open and willing to learn and listen. Pay tribute to those who love you.

My short time a Dio fan, I'm already pissed off. Quit being an erogant ass and everything will be good. You have a new fan base now. Don't treat them as old fans.

heh heh, I like this guy (or gal) Smile

Actually though I think its more the promotors fault, metal just isnt big here, not enough to fill stadiums anyway. Its all about brittney, or justin, or eminem or whoever the kids are into nowdays. The kids have the $$$

I do wish more performers would decide to just do some tours of the smaller places, theaters and clubs ect. Metal is making a bit of a comeback so maybe theres hope for us yet.

Thanks for the sympathy from overseas!

I dont know that Ronnie is ignoring the states, its simple economics, Supply and demand. Metal is fine in the USA, and Ronnie makes appearances with Heaven and Hell. The problem is that Ronnie was big here in the 80s, and music in the USA is trendy. So the radio staions push guys like Ronnie to the side, as new trends emerge. He will always have his loyal fan base, and even new emerging fans, but thats it. Because he does not get the public attention that he deserves, it is hard for him to fill large venues on his own. So given the choice I believe he takes the better gigs, which are in Europe. I wish this wasnt the case, but I cant blame him, or be mad because he doesnt come to my town.

As far as Metal goes, it is where it belongs in the USA, just outside the mainstream. Bands can fill small to medium venues, its just not the big coporate arena rock it was back in the 80s.

I almost had to laugh when I got to this reply, as the whole time i was reading Chains post I was thinking to myself, this person is from the U.S.

It disappoints me when I see people complain about the lack of touring when it comes to the states.

For one thing, just go back a few years and Dio was steamrolling through the states. On the Magica tour I saw him in Milwaukee,TWICE, and the 2 shows were just a few months apart. Then right back again with Maiden in Chicago , and again after that. THEN the whole Heaven and Hell tour over the past year or so.

Sure, it has been a few years since there has been a full blown tour of the states for the band DIO, but Ronnie is only 1 man and the past 2 years has been pretty filled up for him with H&H.

AND, I'm sure (could be wrong though) that alot of the H&H production and recording for the new studio album is being done in England, so why not treat the fans over there to a show here and there while your in that part of the world anyways?

When he does do a full tour of The States, there are many parts of the world that DO NOT see him on that tour, it all evens out over the years.

And ALSO, do the math.....I'm rounding off the numbers here, but if you look up the past tour dates, its been around 3 years and 5 months since the band DIO has toured the states, subtract 9 months for the H&H world tour and thats 2 years and 8 months without a U.S tour as DIO. And subtract the 4 months that Ronnie has been working on the new H&H album and your down to 2 years and 4 months without a U.S tour. Ronnie is human after all, so i'm sure hes had some home time in that 2.4 years as well, so its not really that bad!!!! lol

The only "complaint" I've had in the past few years has been the fact that the states were left out while he was performing the entire Holy Diver Album live, I would have LOVED to see that.

Just my thoughts on this subject, my own opinion is all it is. and I AM from the states lol.

And that was my disappointment was that we in the States did not get to see Holy Diver Live but I saw him twice on Heaven and Hell, once at the Forum and the other at Irvine Meadows.

Being only 14, I have missed out on a lot of bands that I would give just about anything to see live. Unfortunately, now I can't see them, or I can see them and they just aren't what they used to be. I saw Heaven and Hell live, and it was amazing. But one Dio show isn't enough to quench my thirst, I must have more!

Do more tours in the states, especially Michigan!

He has criticized the musical development of the country and probably doesn't like the current image that the States has, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are going nowhere and ppl just dying and wasting money on weapons etc.

Then we have average healthcare systems, too little attention towards global climate change, a huge annual number of murders etc. so not wondering much if Dio IS scared to play there...

I'm myself from Finland.

Cool

No, I think it more or less has to do with the musical climate than the tripe you threw on with your social message.

He has mentioned before about the music situation here and how it is different over in Europe. He has mention before about record companies wanting people to sell millions out of the gate and not nurturing bands like they did in the 70s. As well as said the 80s is never coming back. Not to mention the bashing of American Idol.

He has performed here as Heaven and Hell and he will be performing all over the states as Heaven and Hell in the Metal Masters Tour. I have my ticket and I saw him twice on the Heaven and Hell tour both times here in the states.

I think the question was about the band Dio not playing here and no new Dio album for 4 years now etc. As Dio he has been performing more over in Europe than here in the states but when he was last through here on the Master of the Moon tour I saw him twice. Two years earlier I saw him once at Irvine with Iron Maiden. Magica tour I saw him twice. All again here in the States.

In fact I was pretty amazed to see that Dio really would be "scared" to tour in America... after all, he has just put good critic with sense and there's nothing wrong with it.

America has it's stars rising but somehow it has lost it's "coolness" it had in the seventies... it's not a place where everyone would want to be in their wildest dreams any more - and that's an unfortunate FACT.

Hmmm well it might be hard for him to decide the next move as he got business with H&H, probably Dio will make an album with those guys not sure. But I heard also rumors that he is awaking his original Dio band and my guess is that he will soon start recording a sequel to Magica.

I also wish Ronnie would tour the USA . I was very happy he did
the reuinon tour with H&H . I never thought it would happen . But
luckly it did . But now it's a shame that Dio is being put on hold .
So much great stuff to play live from all the Dio era .

What tripe are you peddling. Dio lives in the US for fuck sake. You speak of YOUR opinion and nothing more. There is no fact to what you say.

He has toured here AS Dio less because he makes MORE money in Europe touring. As soon as he started the Heaven and Hell project and they finished the Dio Years he toured the US.

When Dio does a Dio album he will tour here again AS Dio. He IS touring here as Heaven and Hell here AGAIN in the states.
