Of Course most people here are going to vote for Rainbow, We're on Dio's website. Not that he doesn't deserve it, to say that would be as far from reality as I would dare stretch.
Besides think of how these bands stack up in terms of their two MOST essential members in terms of their signature sound. Vocally Ronnnie Decimates Ozzy, and Ritchie Blackmore's playstyle is a lot more versitile than Tony Iommi's; as Iommi had difficulty playing outside his specific bluesy style due to his famous hand injury. _________________ The Devil is me and I'm holding the key

My vote goes to Rainbow! The Rising-album is one of my favourite rock-albums of all time! Don't like the Sabbath-stuff that much! |

| Sorry but Sabbath really does take this one, as much as I love RJD over Ozzy. |

| Not the best poll to put on here, seeing how this is a ronnie james dio site. The original sabbath were the godfathers of heavy metal, no doubt. Although i like the Rainbow music more, i have to give it to the original Sabbath, just because they basically invented the heavy metal genre. |
Sorry, I can't agree with your comment about Sabbath "inventing" the HM genre. They were certainly pioneers of the genre, there were plenty of other bands around at the time that helped towards the birth of heavy metal.
That being said, I agree, the original Sabbath were far better than the original Rainbow. The fact that these two original line-ups were some 6 years apart has nothing to do with my point of view. |
He said "basically" invented , Excuse my ignorance but I know of no band before Sabbath ('6 that were as heavy or 'doom-like' as Sabbath were. Sure other bands have had influence over bands over the years but most metal bands cite Sabbath as a major influence if not THEE major influence. So i really dont think his comment was too far from the truth. |

To say who was better is easy, Rainbow was better. However, Sabbath is unique in the fact that they did pretty much invent Heavy Metal To deny that would be insane. This doesnt make them the best band, only the more popular because of their contribution to history. To put it plainly, when Ozzy and Sabbath had parted ways, it took guys from Rainbow to Salvage the split. Ronnie resurected Sabbath back to Glory when everyone thought they were done, and Bob Daisley gave Ozzy the song lyrics that helped to solidify his status as the king of Metal. Now before all you Ozzy fans start crying that Ozzy wrote the lyrics, Bob Daisley has said in the past that the lyrics Ozzy and Randy wrote were amaturish at best. He wrote all the lyrics. Ozzy's contribution came from Humming melody lines for Randy to write music around. Ozzy has also said this in different interviews. He just doesnt come write out and say he didnt write the lyrics.
The point is though, that you cannot discount the importance of the Band Rainbow when Comparing them to Sabbath. Their members were intertwined, and helped to move Metal out of 70s hard rock, and into its own legitimate genre. _________________ Check out Al Diamond Phillips/Nevermet on the web

Musicaly speaking, I think they are both great, so at first glance it's not an easy choice.
but vocaly speaking, Ozzys voice has always been like fingernails across a chalk board for me(sorry Ozzy fans), so my vote is Rainbow. |
