The hair man the hair. I was looking for spam and I saw all these pics of long haired dudes.
On the CBED (Christian Bible Errancy Debate), an MSN group some one posted 1 Cor 11 I believe or the passage of Paul saying it was a disgrace for men to have long hair. These guys who most have post grad degrees and many are ex Christians with a half dozen or more Christians as well post there. They tend to be far tooo jewish centric in speaking of origins of christian thought. Oh they mention outside influences but don't really delve into it.
I simply brought up a point of where Paul was getting his rant on long hair vs short hair from since he was as we are told a Roman Citizen. The Romans had morals vices, etc. Julius Caesar displayed mercy to his opponents who expected death as was custom in Roman life for the loser. Augustus had a list of virtues etc that Romans were to follow.
I again was simply saying that in Roman society men wore their hair short. It was also a sign of their higher cultural order and that they were civilized compared to the barbarians who had long hair.
This other guy chided in that mens hair stops at the shoulders. He is from the 60s hippy era. I said I had not problem growing my hair well past my shoulders and I knew of lots of guys who could. He was arguing that what we call short vs long hair is relative which was ignoring my point on what Paul was saying. It did not matter if short to the Romans was really the Beatles moppit which in the 60s was considered long. It is the fact that they cut it shorter than those of the Germanic/Celtic tribes and felt it made them superior so any Roman male who wore his hair long like that was a disgrace. And in Paul's case he was trying to spin it to christian morals of men's hair is short because your head belongs to christ. It is a disgrace for you to wear your hair long and cover your head. Women though were to wear it long because it was a gift of a covering because women came from man etc. Wearing it short for a woman was a disgrace. It also shows how women were made to sound inferior to men etc.
I am simply going to use some of these pics to show hey look their hair is well below their neck. Perhaps this guy has male pattern baldness in his family and/or he smoked some really bad wacky tobacky.

I got lost in the whole Peter thing, didn't know you were referring to the bible.
That's such a weird belief to have, that a guy can't grow his hair past his shoulders... haha

Yeah it is. You get the more orthodox jew with short hair except on the side. You can find the passages that support this to include the beard.
But we hold this crap today as men with longer hair are still looked down upon by many elements of our society. Those with short hair are still considered to be better mannered and simply less savage. Those with longer hair may get comments/jeers of acting feminine. My Brother in Law does that with my nephews. He wants their hair to be a buzz cut as he believes all men should be. They are growing it longer as that may be coming back here btw. I have been trying to convince them that if they are going to grow it longer to keep getting it trimmed so it does not look like a mop and shaggy which just gives their Dad more ammo to pull out the clippers.
Edit/ Oh and the past your shoulder part was not biblical as the passage really does not say how short. The several pictures of Rob Halford within this thread minus the bald ones are pretty much the shortness of Roman males hair. It is also what middle ages christian European upper crusts wore their hair length.
This was another poster that was implying that naturally mens hair grows to the shoulder and not more. Because the bible passage as well used the word nature and I was saying that the word natural is often ill used and does not refer to what is actually happening in nature but what is a social norm or taboo of that particular culture. So the bible passage basically saying that it is natural for or a product of nature that men wear their hair short is false as so many other cultures men wore their hair much longer and well down their backs. Nature does not hidden men from long hair, culture does.
That is where I brought it that it was already a roman custom and had been centuries before well back into the Republic days. It was natural, ie the social norm for men to wear their hair short which distinguished them from the brutish and uncivilized barbarians who once plundered Rome (and well would do it again).
Maybe this guy did not have any Germanic/Nordic blood in him nor his hippy friends around him. We also as well talked about the paintings of Jesus though show him with long flowing hair which goes against that passage about the longer hair being a disgrace on men. But then again those paintings, jesus came from Norway or Sweden or something and in no way represented a Mediterraneans or middle eastern peoples.
