Elf, composed of small players with an explosively big sound, played at clubs, colleges and bars on the east coast of the United States while looking for a record contract.
Right from the start this band became one of what would be known as part of the Purple family. Roger Glover and Ian Paice of Deep Purple happened to see them auditioning for Columbia Records in January 1972 and offered to produce an album for them. Later Ritchie Blackmore would become involved heavily in the band in forming with Ronnie the band Rainbow.
The Elf debut album, recorded an album at Studio One in Atlanta, Georgia in April of 1972, was supported by a tour with the band Deep Purple.
Ronnie James Dio is still very actively involved with these people from the beginnings of a career, and yet hopes someday that time will permit for an Elf reunion. |
